Communications And Public Relations Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications and Public Relations Associate has as its primary responsibility: to help foster and maintain a positive public image for Veterans Christian Network, promoting its mission, services, programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A minimum of 4-6 years of agency and/or internal public relations, communications and/or marketing experience, with Nonprofits;
  • Strong media relations experience;
  • Strong writing, proofreading (AP style), verbal and written communication skills and documented accomplishments and experience;
  • Ability to work independently in an organized, proactive and creative manner, while at the same time, collaborating with other resources and staff;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and workloads across varied programs and services;
  • Experience working with a range of digital and social media tools (WordPress) and platforms, along with strong presentation software skills (PowerPoint or similar), database and CRM tools (Salesforce or similar) and research skills in public relations platforms

Social Media/Communications Intern

Position Summary

Veterans Christian Network is seeking a part-time intern to share stories and grow the support veterans and their family’s movement through social media. This will require the intern to work 10-15 hours per week. The intern will have an opportunity to develop hands on experience with outreach campaigns and the skills to work in a small, fast paced, non-profit organization. This is an unpaid internship, but we can offer college work credit.

Essential Job Functions

Learning Outcomes

  • The Intern will gain a well-rounded introduction to the importance of web marketing and content creation of a nonprofit organization;
  • Will understand the process of creating promotional material that can be used on multiple platforms;
  • Learn the skills of creating online engagement through e-blasts and other social media interaction on Twitter, Facebook, and our website, working with partners to maximize visibility;
  • Learn how to manage deadlines and work productively as a member of a small team.

Projects

  • Work with the Communications Director to develop an editorial calendar for social media & e-newsletters;
  • Organize and develop our image database;
  • Work with the Communications Director to create social media content (Facebook, Twitter, etc.);
  • Research and post articles on the website (Veterans, and families, and political veteran-related news);
  • Media monitoring for veterans, and military news & topics.

Qualifications

  • Interest in military, veterans, and their families;
  • Completed at least one year of college;
  • Strong written and verbal (telephone) communication skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with program staff, veterans;
  • Be excited & thoughtful about sharing stories and building relationships via Facebook & Twitter
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office suite, G Suite (Docs, Sheets), and PC platforms;
  • Preferred – experience with WordPress; Adobe Suite; iMovie or other video editing software.

Executive Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Executive Assistant will perform a high level of diverse clerical, administrative, and general office assistance and support, to ensure an efficient, and positive work environment for Veterans Christian Network CEO and members of the Leadership team, in support of its work in forwarding our mission with our external clients and internal teams. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations as delegated by the CEO while serving as primary liaison to internal and external partners on behalf of the CEO. The Executive Assistant functions as an extension of the CEO by anticipating needs and proactively addressing issues with an emphasis on sound judgment, initiative and confidentiality, with appropriate but minimal direction.

This position facilitates efficient execution of the CEO’s activities by vetting internal and external requests, directing assignments to appropriate staff, working closely with Veterans Christian Network Leadership team members, managing internal and external correspondence, taking the lead in briefing preparation, and managing special events.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

We will consider exceptional candidates who do not meet these requirements but otherwise demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

Strong preference for at least 3 years of senior level experience supporting C-level management, preferably in a nonprofit setting;

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; Excellent people skills, including networking, organizing, and inspiring excellence;

Ability to exercise sensitivity, discretion, judgment, tact and diplomacy given that information handled may be confidential and complex in nature;

Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills;

Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, react and think quickly; Must be calm and efficient;

A self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and involvement with the initiative to proactively troubleshoot and identify potential problems and resolve conflicts;

Ability to know when to seek clarification or assistance;

High energy level, enthusiastic, and eager to do what is necessary to be successful;

Ability to learn, respond and react quickly, to changing priorities with a dedication to completion of tasks;

Ability to build effective professional relationships with stakeholders including staff, Board members, external partners, and donors;

Superior computer skills (MS Office Suite & Google Suite, required; Salesforce experience a plus); ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports;

Will require a time commitment and flexibility commensurate to the needs of the CEO;

Must be committed to the work of social and economic justice organizations.
